I. REAKTIONEN VON BISCHÖFEN

Priesterinnen geweiht.

'
Zu seiner Person:
Fr. Ed Cachia ist ein 55 Jahre alter Priester der Pfarrei St. Michael in
Couburg in Ontario USA.

Fr. Ed Cachia and the reign of terror
"The existence of different currents of thought seems necessary if an
excessive conformism is to be avoided ... The Christian message is
universal. It addresses itself therefore to very different people. It is
to be expected that there would be diverse approaches. This implies
plurality.

- Joseph Cadinal Ratzinger
"Today the spouse of Christ (the church) prefers to use the medicine of
mercy rather than severity. She considers that she meets the needs of
the present age by showing the validity of her teaching rather than by
condemnations."
...
In recent times "those in power, having failed to
convince the people intellectually, and having suffered irreparable
damage by the pedophilia scandal, have resorted to the age-old tactic of
power-silencing and removing. This brings us to the sad case of Fr. Ed
Cachia, as reported on page 14. (Volume 29, Issue 15, October 9, 2005
CNT)
...
"The 'crime' of Fr. Cachia"
"...."In response to a reporter's question about the women's ordination in
the St. Lawrence, Fr. Cachia replied honestly. He genuinely hoped it was
"the beginning of a new and awesome change in the life of the church."

Echoing the vast majority of Canadian Catholics who believe the
same, Cachia called for even more dialogue on this non-infallible
teaching, but "Rome is not giving them a chance."

As it stands now Bishop Nicola De Angelis has given Cachia a month's
leave (ending Oct. 1) to pray and reflect and then retract his comments.
And then? The withdrawal of priestly privileges, the banning from a
diocese, a public humiliation?

To nobody's surprise, Cachia's parish is solidly behind him. Five
hundred messages have been sent to the bishop, almost all in Cachia's
favour. The pastor appears serene. The only one to lose here is an
institution rapidly losing credibility. The good news is that ordinary
folks are refusing any longer to be co-dependent in this abuse, this war
against ideas, this terrible fear so unbecoming the people of God.

In a similar way, the story on page 13 echoes the Cobourg
debacle.September's "Theology in the Vineyard," an informal discussion
held at a Southern Ontario winery, was simply another way of demanding
dialogue. Has the church learned nothing in 100 years? Do we really want
to go back to Pius X, to the bullies in the Holy Office, to the reign of
terror and intimidation? How we long for the law of love and not the law
of institutions.

What exactly are we afraid of?"

And now - Cachia has been defrocked!

"Bishop Rules Priest Rendered "Unfit" for Priesthood over Campaign for
Women Priests

PETERBOROUGH, ON, October 20, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Catholic
priest who made public comments regarding his support for a group of
women pretending Catholic ordination to the priesthood, has been
relieved of his duties as a priest after refusing to recommit to church
teaching on the matter. LifeSiteNews.com reported in August (...) that
Fr. Edward Cachia gave an interview to a local paper in which he
praised the women's controversial display which took place this past
July on a boat on the St. Lawrence river.

In a press release yesterday from the chancery office of Peterborough
Bishop Nicola De Angelis, the diocese states that it "regrets (Fr.
Cachia's) decision to refuse to accept the universal and constant
teaching of the Catholic Church in relation to holy orders being
reserved two men alone." It continues, "Though having freely professed
adherence to all the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and to the
Roman Pontiff on the day of his ordination, Fr. Cachia now feels unable
to live out this commitment."

Fr. Cachia was given over two months to reconsider his position but
"sadly", says the release, "has chosen to remain attached to positions
contrary to the teachings of the church."

The release explains that the Catholic Church, "like any other
organization possesses rules and expectations that are necessary for
membership," and that priests freely take on the responsibility of
"teaching the entire deposit of the Catholic faith in the name of the
Church and not his own feelings or points of view."

His refusal, "now renders him unfit to serve the Catholic people in the
leadership role of priest," says the release."

BRIEF VON MARIE BOUCLIN an Fr. Ed Cachia's Bishop
(usede with permission):

Datum: Sun, 16 Oct 2005 22:47:32 -0400

"Most Revered N. De Angelis

Bishop of Peterborough

Dear Bishop De Angelis,

For some time now, I've been following the story of Father Ed Cachia in
the Catholic New Times. I would be remiss if I did not, on behalf of
Women's Ordination Worldwide, express both gratitude to Fr. Ed for his
support of women called to the priesthood but also my disappointment at
the action taken as a result of his remarks. I wish to make only one
point, adding to those more eloquently made by others.

Using the argument of authority to bully anyone into acting against his or
her conscience is not only dangerous but futile. To be compelling,
arguments must be based on sound reasoning and fact grounded in
experience. It is time the hierarchy of the Church realize that it is
dealing with Catholic adults, not children. Most of whom are educated,
many are mature in their faith, and some have considerable theological
training. The Magisterium's arguments against the ordination of women do
not take into account recent biblical or theological scholarship, nor the
archeological evidence that women were deacons, priests and even bishops
in the Early Church. The argument that women are not to be admitted to
ordination because the Magisterium says so simply does not hold up under
intelligent investigation. And so, for lack of a credible argument, Rome
resorts to imposing its authority.

You need only think of what happened with Humanae Vitae. When the Vatican
refused to listen to the life experience of faithful and dedicated
Catholic couples grappling with the problem of birth control, or even the
conclusions of the Pontifical Commission charged with studying this issue,
the result was a massive loss of credibility for the church hierarchy. You
will recall that our Canadian bishops issued the "Winnipeg Statement"
which, in a word, told Catholic laity to follow the dictates of their
conscience. Consequently, many Catholic couples chose to "dissent" from
the official, though not infallible, teaching of the Church. The more
serious consequence for the Church, however, was that many Catholics
became conscious that decision-makers in Rome did not listen to the sensus
fidelium, but simply imposed their view by invoking papal authority to do
so. This is a brand of creeping infallibility which is incompatible with
freedom of conscience. It is also tantamount to a stifling of the Spirit
who dwells in all baptized and believing persons.

With respect to the movement in favour of women's ordination in the Roman
Catholic church, I would enjoin you to consider the words of Gamaliel: "If
this enterprise, this movement of theirs, is of human origin it will break
up of its own accord; but if it does in fact come from God you might not
only be unable to destroy them, but you might find yourselves fighting
against God." (Acts 5:39) Then, invite your brother bishops and the
members of the Roman curia to press Benedict XVI to listen to what the
Spirit is saying to women who believe they are called to ordained
ministry. And stop persecuting those who support them.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Marie Evans Bouclin, Coordinator, Women's Ordination Worldwide

III.

"One of the four women ordained on July 25 was Dr. Michele Birch-Conery, a
scholar and professor of English and Women\x{2019}s studies at North Island
College on Vancouver Island. In recognition of this historic leap
forward, \x{201C}Ministry Without Borders\x{201D} (www.ministry-without-borders.org
 ) organized a formal reception
and welcome home to the Island for Dr. Birch-Conery on Saturday September
10 in the town of Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. In what was her
\x{201C}traditional first mass\x{201D} Dr. Birch-Conery presided at a Eucharistic
celebration that exemplified the inclusiveness that her ordination seeks
to expand. As co-celebrant Françoise Brassard, a married priest who is a
national leader of CORPUS CANADA (http://www.corpuscanada.org/
), and his wife Connie Kurtenbach, poet and
writer, were the driving force behind this extraordinary celebration.

Dr. Birch-Conery was escorted to the altar by a native women drum ensemble
from Chemanius. Throughout the liturgy there was active participation of
church elders, and clergy from both the Anglican and Lutheran communions.
A number of Anglican women priests were present to welcome their first
\x{201C}Roman\x{201D} sister to the priesthood to which they had been formally called
years before. Married priests from different CORPUS communities of Alberta
and British Columbia were present with their wives and family to welcome
Dr. Birch-Conery to the expanded priesthood which they discovered (the
process was called \x{201C}laicization\x{201D}) in recovering their place among the
people of God (formerly called the laity).

A group from Vancouver representing another marginalized group, the gay
community, came sporting shirts that proclaimed \x{201C}Intrinsically Good\x{201D} \x{2013} a
good natured rebuttal to the slanderous label issued by the previous head
of the Holy Office of the Inquisition to those children of God whose
sexual orientation is not that of the heterosexual majority.
...
There was a youthful presence at the celebration, in the music provided by
the Nanaimo Youth Ensemble led by Hilary Ladd. Ms. Ladd is the daughter
of a woman Anglican priest who is married to a Lutheran minister. This
ecumenical presence was manifest at the time of communion when all those
present were invited to come forward to share in the Eucharistic banquet.
All were invited \x{2013} St. Paul would have been proud to see such a
community finally taking him seriously.

The liturgy of the word became a proclamation of prophetic expectation.
The readings were Wisdom 7:22-30, Hosea 2:16-23 and John 4:1-43. To a
responsorial titled \x{201C}Wise Woman\x{201D} there was a most beautiful interpretive
dance performed by Karen Gossetti. To the readings Dr. Birch-Conery
responded with a meditative and instructional reflection highlighting the
course in which she sees her new ministry unfolding. At the same time, it
was obvious that her scholarship and sensitivity to the issues of the
marginalized would bring new wisdom to the faith communities that yearn
for her leadership.

The liturgical setting was quickly transformed into an outdoor dining room
with a meal catered for the 150 plus guests in attendance.
...

As the dinner unfolded, greetings from around the world were read to the
gathering. One Catholic bishop sent his greeting and best wishes. Other
greetings of congratulations from the United States and Europe were also
read. A former representative of the diocesan commission on the status of
women spoke about the pioneer work begun under the direction and support
of Bishop Remi DeRoo.
...
Throughout the afternoon Dr. Birch-Conery was generous in time given to
persons of the media who sought interviews. The main newspaper of the
Island (Victoria Times-Colonist) ran a front page article on Sunday
September 11 covering this event. Dr. Birch-Conery is quoted as saying
\x{201C}If this is needed ... the people will accept it\x{201D}. That encapsulates the
spirit of the day\x{2019}s celebration \x{2013} not a statement of defiance to the
established order but rather a simple proposition to the people of God who
seek spiritual guidance and leadership in a new mode of service and
inclusiveness.

The Vatican has declared 2005 to be \x{201C}The Year of the Eucharist\x{201D}. It is a
sign of the Spirit that what was intended to be a reaffirmation of the old
order and the exclusive control of the self-appointing clerical caste
would explode into a celebration of the dynamic
inclusivity and the beginning of a new time of blessings and promise \x{2013} a
really new Kairos awaited by the people of God."

Society and married priest living on Vancouver Island

IV. PRIESTERINNENMANGEL IN FRANKREICH

Bischofssynode in Rom.

Dienst!
Heiligen Vaters Benedikt XVI.

B H I R T I N N E N B R I E F 10/2005
==========================================

S O L I D A R I T ä T

ÜBERLEGEN AUCH SIE, WAS KÖNNEN WIR TUN, UM Fr.

ausgegrenzten Frauen solidarisieren.

Mit herzlichen Grüßen

MICHELE BIRCH-CONERY CELEBRATES HER FIRST MASS IV. SHORTAGE OF PRIESTS IN FRANCE V. THE BISHOPS SYNOD AND THE WOMEN The pastoral letter deals with SOLIDARITY A N E W S L E T T E R I. RESPONSES FROM BISHOPS Our movement continues in the same peaceful manner as it had been started. The Vatican deals with us in a factual and sovereign style. The Vatican newsletter of Oct. 3, 2005, for instance, says: "Next summer a Swiss female theologian will be "ordained" to Roman-Catholic priesthood. This is said by a message which was distributed by the group "R.C. womenpriests" last weekend. This group originates from grassroots movements within the church in Germany and Austria. According to the Catholic canon law, the ordination of a woman is impossible. This group has already ordained about 20 women to Catholic priests since 2002 in deliberate church political provocation. The Swiss candidate is the theologian Monika Wyss, says the message. The "ordination" will take place on June 24, 2006 on lake Bodensee. Besides Wyss two further women from other countries will be ordained." ... a few - not really outstandingly famous - bishops seem to become slightly nervous, for example: 1. In the diocese Muenchen-Freising, headed by Cardinal Friedrich Wetter, a parish community was forbidden to talk about women's ordination in a church-owned location. The event had to be cancelled a few hours before the scheduled beginning; 2. An ordained woman was dismissed without notice from all her ministries in the church; 3. Fr. Ed Cachia from Canada, was fired from his priestly ministry, because he said, he hoped that the ordination of women will be the beginning of a yearningly expected change in the church. Whereas the Vatican is responding with calmness and politely, there are several local bishops who seem to lose their heads just because of women yearning for access to ordainend ministry in the RC church in a patient way without any radicalism. In our opinion the reactions of the three bishops mentioned above is simply exaggerated, because - discussions among humans shall not and cannot be forbidden - not even in church locations; - female employees of the church should be have safety against dismission without notice; - firing a priest who publicly says just what 95% of the Catholics is frankly speaking out and what - according to our investigations - the majority of the priests is thinking secretly, is a sign of nervousness but not of sovereignity. We give our thanks to the newspapers of Munich for their clear and factual reports on the refusal of discussion, we express our thanks to the ordained woman for her courage to continue her support for equal rights for women, and we heartily thank Fr. Ed for his courageos act of solidarity and we also thank the accompanying press and ask them for supporting Fr. Ed and for demonstrating solidarity with him. On the personality of Fr. Ed: Fr. Ed Cachia is a 55 year old priest in the parish of St. Michael in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. He is being highly esteemed by the parish people. After his expression of solidarity his Bishop Nicola de Angelis gave him one month to withdraw, then he removed him from his priestly ministry and banished him from his diocese. The parish people stand by him. The members of the parish have written 500 letters to the Bishop in which they stand up for his staying - all in vain. Fr. Ed himself asked; what is the Bishop afraid of? Fr. Ed has never abused children, he has never said anything against the R.C. hierarchy, hes has not given the holy communion to Protestant christians, he has not celebrated an ecumenical mass, he has not committed an abortion, he has not made any woman pregnant. But in spite of all that a Bishop has expelled such a man from priestly ministry. What could be the reason for that? 1. INGRATIATION In the first place it may be that a Bishop is trying to put himself into good light, or to attract attention in the Vatican as a hardliner, which would be helpful for a further career. 2. LOYALTY TO CHURCH LAW The stories also look like if a Bishop would send a signal to Rome: Look at me how I am observing the law, how terrific I am, qualified for becoming head of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith. 3. PERSONAL SOCIALIZATION It would be imaginable as well that a Bishop taking an action like this is seizing an opportunity in his life to express his deeply stuck emotions which have developed over years. Therefore we want to ask you, dear readers: What could the reason be for such tough reactions of these Bishops? In order to enable you to get an idea of the occurences around Fr. Ed, we present extracts of three articles and statements: 1. THE INQUISITION BEGINS - out of CATHOLIC NEW TIMES, Oct. 12, 2005 2. LIFE SITE NEWS, Oct. 20, 2005 3. LETTER OF MARIE BOUCLIN TO BISHOP DE ANGELIS ad 1) "Wed, 12 Oct 2005 13:19:26 -0600 Fr. Ed Cachia and the reign of terror "The existence of different currents of thought seems necessary if an excessive conformism is to be avoided ... The Christian message is universal. It addresses itself therefore to very different people. It is to be expected that there would be diverse approaches. This implies plurality. - Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger "Today the spouse of Christ (the church) prefers to use the medicine of mercy rather than severity. She considers that she meets the needs of the present age by showing the validity of her teaching rather than by condemnations." ... In recent times "those in power, having failed to convince the people intellectually, and having suffered irreparable damage by the pedophilia scandal, have resorted to the age-old tactic of power-silencing and removing. This brings us to the sad case of Fr. Ed Cachia, as reported on page 14. (Volume 29, Issue 15, October 9, 2005 CNT) ... "The 'crime' of Fr. Cachia" "...."In response to a reporter's question about the women's ordination in the St. Lawrence, Fr. Cachia replied honestly. He genuinely hoped it was "the beginning of a new and awesome change in the life of the church." Echoing the vast majority of Canadian Catholics who believe the same, Cachia called for even more dialogue on this non-infallible teaching, but "Rome is not giving them a chance." As it stands now Bishop Nicola De Angelis has given Cachia a month's leave (ending Oct. 1) to pray and reflect and then retract his comments. And then? The withdrawal of priestly privileges, the banning from a diocese, a public humiliation? To nobody's surprise, Cachia's parish is solidly behind him. Five hundred messages have been sent to the bishop, almost all in Cachia's favour. The pastor appears serene. The only one to lose here is an institution rapidly losing credibility. The good news is that ordinary folks are refusing any longer to be co-dependent in this abuse, this war against ideas, this terrible fear so unbecoming the people of God. In a similar way, the story on page 13 echoes the Cobourg debacle.September's "Theology in the Vineyard," an informal discussion held at a Southern Ontario winery, was simply another way of demanding dialogue. Has the church learned nothing in 100 years? Do we really want to go back to Pius X, to the bullies in the Holy Office, to the reign of terror and intimidation? How we long for the law of love and not the law of institutions. What exactly are we afraid of?" ad 2) And now - Cachia has been defrocked! "Bishop Rules Priest Rendered "Unfit" for Priesthood over Campaign for Women Priests PETERBOROUGH, ON, October 20, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Catholic priest who made public comments regarding his support for a group of women pretending Catholic ordination to the priesthood, has been relieved of his duties as a priest after refusing to recommit to church teaching on the matter. LifeSiteNews.com reported in August (...) that Fr. Edward Cachia gave an interview to a local paper in which he praised the women's controversial display which took place this past July on a boat on the St. Lawrence river. In a press release yesterday from the chancery office of Peterborough Bishop Nicola De Angelis, the diocese states that it "regrets (Fr. Cachia's) decision to refuse to accept the universal and constant teaching of the Catholic Church in relation to holy orders being reserved two men alone." It continues, "Though having freely professed adherence to all the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and to the Roman Pontiff on the day of his ordination, Fr. Cachia now feels unable to live out this commitment." Fr. Cachia was given over two months to reconsider his position but "sadly", says the release, "has chosen to remain attached to positions contrary to the teachings of the church." The release explains that the Catholic Church, "like any other organization possesses rules and expectations that are necessary for membership," and that priests freely take on the responsibility of "teaching the entire deposit of the Catholic faith in the name of the Church and not his own feelings or points of view." His refusal, "now renders him unfit to serve the Catholic people in the leadership role of priest," says the release." ad 3) LETTER OF MARIE BOUCLIN to Fr. Ed Cachia's Bishop Nicola De Angelis (usede with permission): Datum: Sun, 16 Oct 2005 22:47:32 -0400 "Most Revered N. De Angelis Bishop of Peterborough Dear Bishop De Angelis, For some time now, I've been following the story of Father Ed Cachia in the Catholic New Times. I would be remiss if I did not, on behalf of Women's Ordination Worldwide, express both gratitude to Fr. Ed for his support of women called to the priesthood but also my disappointment at the action taken as a result of his remarks. I wish to make only one point, adding to those more eloquently made by others. Using the argument of authority to bully anyone into acting against his or her conscience is not only dangerous but futile. To be compelling, arguments must be based on sound reasoning and fact grounded in experience. It is time the hierarchy of the Church realize that it is dealing with Catholic adults, not children. Most of whom are educated, many are mature in their faith, and some have considerable theological training. The Magisterium's arguments against the ordination of women do not take into account recent biblical or theological scholarship, nor the archeological evidence that women were deacons, priests and even bishops in the Early Church. The argument that women are not to be admitted to ordination because the Magisterium says so simply does not hold up under intelligent investigation. And so, for lack of a credible argument, Rome resorts to imposing its authority. You need only think of what happened with Humanae Vitae. When the Vatican refused to listen to the life experience of faithful and dedicated Catholic couples grappling with the problem of birth control, or even the conclusions of the Pontifical Commission charged with studying this issue, the result was a massive loss of credibility for the church hierarchy. You will recall that our Canadian bishops issued the "Winnipeg Statement" which, in a word, told Catholic laity to follow the dictates of their conscience. Consequently, many Catholic couples chose to "dissent" from the official, though not infallible, teaching of the Church. The more serious consequence for the Church, however, was that many Catholics became conscious that decision-makers in Rome did not listen to the sensus fidelium, but simply imposed their view by invoking papal authority to do so. This is a brand of creeping infallibility which is incompatible with freedom of conscience. It is also tantamount to a stifling of the Spirit who dwells in all baptized and believing persons. With respect to the movement in favour of women's ordination in the Roman Catholic church, I would enjoin you to consider the words of Gamaliel: "If this enterprise, this movement of theirs, is of human origin it will break up of its own accord; but if it does in fact come from God you might not only be unable to destroy them, but you might find yourselves fighting against God." (Acts 5:39) Then, invite your brother bishops and the members of the Roman curia to press Benedict XVI to listen to what the Spirit is saying to women who believe they are called to ordained ministry. And stop persecuting those who support them. Yours sincerely in Christ, Marie Evans Bouclin, Coordinator, Women's Ordination Worldwide Thank you, Marie. MICHELE BIRCH-CONERY CELEBRATED FIRST MASS On September 10, 2005, the R.C. priest Dr. Michele Birch-Conery celebrated her first mass. Michele is one of the four women who had been ordained to R.C. priesthood on July 25, 2005. She is a professor for English and female studies at the University of Vancouver Island. In her first mass Michele celebrated a Eucharist which should make visible the inclusiveness to all humans. Together with her Mr. Francois Brassard, a married priest and head of the Canadian Corpus group, stood at the altar. Anglican female priests welcomed her Roman Catholic sister. Several married priests had come in company with their families. Read the following report on Michele's first mass: "One of the four women ordained on July 25 was Dr. Michele Birch-Conery, a scholar and professor of English and Women\x{2019}s studies at North Island College on Vancouver Island. In recognition of this historic leap forward, \x{201C}Ministry Without Borders\x{201D} (www.ministry-without-borders.org ) organized a formal reception and welcome home to the Island for Dr. Birch-Conery on Saturday September 10 in the town of Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. In what was her \x{201C}traditional first mass\x{201D} Dr. Birch-Conery presided at a Eucharistic celebration that exemplified the inclusiveness that her ordination seeks to expand. As co-celebrant Françoise Brassard, a married priest who is a national leader of CORPUS CANADA (http://www.corpuscanada.org/ ), and his wife Connie Kurtenbach, poet and writer, were the driving force behind this extraordinary celebration. Dr. Birch-Conery was escorted to the altar by a native women drum ensemble from Chemanius. Throughout the liturgy there was active participation of church elders, and clergy from both the Anglican and Lutheran communions. A number of Anglican women priests were present to welcome their first \x{201C}Roman\x{201D} sister to the priesthood to which they had been formally called years before. Married priests from different CORPUS communities of Alberta and British Columbia were present with their wives and family to welcome Dr. Birch-Conery to the expanded priesthood which they discovered (the process was called \x{201C}laicization\x{201D}) in recovering their place among the people of God (formerly called the laity). A group from Vancouver representing another marginalized group, the gay community, came sporting shirts that proclaimed \x{201C}Intrinsically Good\x{201D} \x{2013} a good natured rebuttal to the slanderous label issued by the previous head of the Holy Office of the Inquisition to those children of God whose sexual orientation is not that of the heterosexual majority. ... There was a youthful presence at the celebration, in the music provided by the Nanaimo Youth Ensemble led by Hilary Ladd. Ms. Ladd is the daughter of a woman Anglican priest who is married to a Lutheran minister. This ecumenical presence was manifest at the time of communion when all those present were invited to come forward to share in the Eucharistic banquet. All were invited \x{2013} St. Paul would have been proud to see such a community finally taking him seriously. The liturgy of the word became a proclamation of prophetic expectation. The readings were Wisdom 7:22-30, Hosea 2:16-23 and John 4:1-43. To a responsorial titled \x{201C}Wise Woman\x{201D} there was a most beautiful interpretive dance performed by Karen Gossetti. To the readings Dr. Birch-Conery responded with a meditative and instructional reflection highlighting the course in which she sees her new ministry unfolding. At the same time, it was obvious that her scholarship and sensitivity to the issues of the marginalized would bring new wisdom to the faith communities that yearn for her leadership. The liturgical setting was quickly transformed into an outdoor dining room with a meal catered for the 150 plus guests in attendance. ... As the dinner unfolded, greetings from around the world were read to the gathering. One Catholic bishop sent his greeting and best wishes. Other greetings of congratulations from the United States and Europe were also read. A former representative of the diocesan commission on the status of women spoke about the pioneer work begun under the direction and support of Bishop Remi DeRoo. ... Throughout the afternoon Dr. Birch-Conery was generous in time given to persons of the media who sought interviews. The main newspaper of the Island (Victoria Times-Colonist) ran a front page article on Sunday September 11 covering this event. Dr. Birch-Conery is quoted as saying \x{201C}If this is needed ... the people will accept it\x{201D}. That encapsulates the spirit of the day\x{2019}s celebration \x{2013} not a statement of defiance to the established order but rather a simple proposition to the people of God who seek spiritual guidance and leadership in a new mode of service and inclusiveness. The Vatican has declared 2005 to be \x{201C}The Year of the Eucharist\x{201D}. It is a sign of the Spirit that what was intended to be a reaffirmation of the old order and the exclusive control of the self-appointing clerical caste would explode into a celebration of the dynamic inclusivity and the beginning of a new time of blessings and promise \x{2013} a really new Kairos awaited by the people of God." Excerpts from article by: Phil Little, Member of Xristos Community Society and married priest living on Vancouver Island IV. SHORTAGE OF PRIESTS IN FRANCE A report from France: "As you probably know, here in France the pastoral care by priests is in a bad way. In my wife's home country one single priest has to care for several communities within a radius of several dozens of kilometers. Consequently, services cannot take place more often than once a month in one village. An early mass at 9:00 and a late mass at 11:00, that's all a single priest can manage on a Sunday forenoon. He has to move in his old 2CV rattletrap, because priests are being paid according to SMIC (minimum salary) - according to the motto 'the lower the salary, the deeper the vocation.' " Our wish for the poor priest in France is that he will get a colleague by his side to support him in his priestly ministry. We are glad about the successful activities of the first female priests in France, Canada and the USA. We hope that there will be many people to support Fr. Ed Cachia. A home for him in our hearts and in our circle is certain to him. Christine Mayr-Lumetzberger Dr. Gisela Forster Dr. Patricia Fresen ****************************************************************************************** B P A S T O R A L L E T T E R 10 / 2005 S O L I D A R I T Y Being solidary in good times, identifying oneself with successful people - that's not so difficult. On the contrary: there are many people who are always checking for the direction of success, which party is in power and which leader has the final say presently. They do not look at the matter itself, they only look at the success of the persons who are advocating this matter just now. It happens quite rarely that somebody joins an unsuccessful person. Despised, persecuted, unsuccessful and excluded people will hardly ever experience solidarity. One who is exercising solidarity by standing up for equal rights for women in a courageous and exemplary way, is Fr. Ed Cachia from Canada. He did not stop talking about women's ordination even though this was a forbidden subject to talk about. Fr. Ed does not hide himself and he does not deny his thoughts. Now he has to pay for that: His Bishop removed him from his parish community and ordered him to regret. As he did not step back from what he had said, the Bishop punished him with highest hardship: he deprived him of his livelihood. Fr. Ed's solidarity resulted in the destruction of his vocational and financial existence. That does not touch his Bishop. Sitting in his warm room in his palace, he says that everything is in accordance to the law. We are longing for priests and Bishops who will not leave Fr. Ed in the lurch, who declare their solidarity with him and who help him even though they are aware of not totally standing on the side of the successful and the powerful. Fr. Ed is waiting for a signe of solidarity. Don't refuse him even though he is presently not sitting on the side of the powerful. PLEASE DO THINK ABOUT WHAT WE COULD DO IN ORDER TO SUPPORT FR. ED CACHIA ! There are hundreds of other Bishops who would really esteem or almost long for a woman in ministry or a female colleague in ministry. We wish those hundreds of others that they may have the courage to talk to each other at least in private circles and to find ways how to treat women in the R.C. church in an equal manner and how they could support men of among their own ranks in standing solidly behind the excluded women. =====================================

I.REPONSES D' EVEQUES

3. LETTRE DE MARIE BOUCLIN A MGR DE ANGELIS

1) « Mercredi 12 Oct 2005
P. Ed.

PETERBOROUGH, ON, 20 Octobre 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) -

3)LETTRE DE MARIE BOUCLIN à Mgr Nicola De Angelis
(avec l' autorisation de l'auteure ):
« Dimanche 16 Oct 2005
Au très Révérend N. De Angelis Evêque de Peterborough

Cher Mgr De Angelis,
« si cette entreprise ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle sera détruite;

B L E T T RE P A S T O R A L E 10/2005
===============================================

S O L I D A R I T E

Christine Mayr-Lumetzberger
