In der österlichen Zeit wünschen wir uns, dass noch mehr Gemeindepfarrer
uns unterstützen und zwar so, dass sie die Kinder, die wir taufen, in ihre
Taufbücher eintragen lassen. Erste Gemeindepfarrer habe sich dazu bereit
erklärt, aber sie sollen nicht alleine stehen. Weitere sind als
Unterstützer willkommen. Jede Zuschrift wird streng vertraulich behandelt.

In der Süddeutschen Zeitung wird über die Priestermisere in Passau
berichtet: Nur noch 3 Priesteramtskandidaten stehen in Passau in
Ausbildung. So wird das Priesterseminar demnächst geschlossen werden
müssen. 7 Priesterinnen und 6 Diakoninnen wurden in den letzten beiden
Jahren in Passau geweiht. Schade, dass diese Priesterinnen nicht in Passau
arbeiten dürfen. Die Menschen von Passau würden sich sicher freuen und der
Priestermangel in Passau hätte ein Ende.
zu 5:
Immer mehr Ordensfrauen erkundigen sich bei uns, ob auch eine Ordensfrau
oder Ordensoberin zur Priesterin geweiht werden könnte.
Wir machen grundsätzlich darauf aufmerksam, dass die römisch-katholischen
Frauenorden derzeit alle Frauen entlassen, die sich zu rk Priesterinnen
weihen lassen (siehe Sr. Adelinde Roitinger und Sr. Dr Patricia Fresen).
Wenn eine Ordensfrau es riskieren will, geweiht und von ihrem Orden
verstoßen zu werden und wenn sie für sich selbst eine existentielle
Zukunft sieht, sind wir bereit, diese Ordensfrau zu weihen. Wenn eine
Ordensfrau aber durch die Priesterinnenweihe in den Abgrund zu stürzen
droht, dann ist es besser, die Ordensfrau empfängt durch uns eine
KATAKOMBENWEIHE = eine heimliche Weihe, die zwar notariell dokumentiert
wird, aber nicht an die Öffentlichkeit dringt.

KATAKOMBENWEIHEN gab es bereits mehrere in diesem Jahr und es sind auch
noch mehrere für den Sommer und Herbst geplant. Frauen, die sich für eine
KATAKOMBENWEIHE interessieren, können sich gerne an uns wenden.
zu 7.:
Am 23. April wird in Wien eine Podiumsdiskussion zu "10 Jahre
Kirchenvolksbegehren" veranstaltet. Renommierte Theologen, Professoren und
Journalisten und auch eine Frau aus unserem Kreis werden auf dem Podium
diskutieren.

NEWSLETTER NO. 3/2005 and PASTORAL LETTER NO. 3/2005 of 4 April 2005

Dear Friends and all who are interested in our undertakings:
The death of Pope John Paul II occurred in between the sending-out of
the German Newsletter and this English one. Together with billions of
people, we are praying at this time. We plan to write something
soon about our wishes regarding the new Pope and the future of the Church.
In this Newsletter, no. 3/2005 we report on the following:

7. Celebration in Vienna of 10 years of the people's movement,
'Wir sind Kirche', on 23 April.
1. In this Easter season our wish is that more parish priests would
support us by entering into their parish baptismal register the baptisms
of children baptised by us. There are already a few who are willing to
do this and we would welcome more offers of this nature. We treat each
offer as strictly confidential.
2. The Austrian journal 'Profil Österreich' has a recent article on the
'long and difficult way of women to the top' in which they list the
following for Austria:
1897: First women graduated from High School
1918: First women in Austrian parliament
1919: First women admitted as students at the Technical University
1946: First women permitted to study in the Catholic faculty
1947: First women judges in Vienna and Linz
1953: First woman mayor
1966: First woman Minister in government
1994: First woman Lutheran Superintendant
1997: First woman member of Philharmonic orchestra
2002: First woman director of Austrian Television
2002: First R. C. women ordained priests
(The actual text reads: in 2002 Gisela Forster and Christine
Mayr-Lumetzberger were ordianed R.C. priests on the Danube.
This is illegal in Canon Law and the women were later
excommunicated ...)
3. On 12 March, Dr Patricia Fresen was the keynote speaker at the SEPA
WOC (South Eastern Pennsylvania Women's Ordination Conference) 30th
anniversary convention. Extracts from her talk on the topic of
'PROPHETIC OBEDIENCE' are in our Pastoral Letter below.
4. In the German newspaper, Die Süddeutsche Zeitung, there has been a
report about the priest shortage in Passau. There are at present only
three seminarians studying for the priesthood. Therefore the seminary
will soon be closed. Seven womenpriests and six women deacons have been
ordained in Passau recently. What a pity that these priests and deacons
are not permitted to minister in Passau! The people of Passau would
surely rejoice and the priest shortage there would be over.
5. Several Religious Sisters have approached us recently to enquire
about the possibility of ordination. Up to now, the Orders have
dismissed women who have been ordained or requested that they seek
dispensation (Sr. Adelinde Roitinger and Sr. Patricia Fresen).
If a Religious is willing to take the risk of being dismissed and if she
has the possibility of a viable future outside of her Order or
Congregation, we are willing to admit her into the program and to ordain
her publicly. There is also the possibility of a 'Catacomb' ordination,
which is legally notarized and which gives her more time to see how
events will unfold. Other possibilities for Religious seeking
ordination are being discussed.
6. There have already been a number of 'Catacomb' ordinations this year
and there are more planned for the summer and in autumn. Women who for
one reason or another need a 'Catacomb' ordination are welcome to
approach us about this.
7. On 23 April in Vienna there will be a Podium Discussion to celebrate
the tenth anniversary of the people's movement, 'Wir sind Kirche'. Some
renowned theologians, professors and journalists have been invited to
speak, including one woman from our Womenpriests community.

II. PASTORAL LETTER 3/2005
Our Pastoral Letter is composed of extracts from Dr Patricia Fresen's
talk on "PROPHETIC OBEDIENCE" given at SEPA WOC in Philadelphia on 12
March 2005. She says much about our growing R.C. Womenpriests'
community and about our identity and vision as womenpriests.
F U R T H E R O R D I N A T I O N S O F W O M E N P R I E S T S
Seven women ordained on the Danube in 2002. In 2003 there were only a
handful of women were in the program. But in the next two years, the
enquiries and applications were already starting to roll in and since
then, the numbers have snowballed. There are presently well over 50
women working their way through our program to prepare for priestly
ministry.
As you may know, there was another memorable ordination ceremony on a
ship 'Sissi' on the Danube last year, in June 2004. In the presence of
120 guests, six women were ordained deacons: two from the USA, one from
Canada, one from Switzerland, one from Latvia, and one from France. All
of them will be ordained priests this year and next year. This was only
the second public ordination and we asked the women to come to Europe
for it. However, now that the numbers have grown so enormously,
particularly in the USA, we are willing to come to the North
American continent for an ordination ceremony this year, and possibly
in future years as well.
Ten women will be ordained this year, five as priests and five as
deacons. The Frenchwoman will be ordained to the priesthood on 2 July
near Lyons, on a ship on the Saone. This will be the first R.C.
ordination in France: a significant church event. On 25 July, we plan
a big ordination ceremony on the St Lawrence river, in international
waters, embarking from Ganonoque in Canada. This will be the largest
group of ordinands so far. It will be the first ordination of Roman
Catholic women in the United States and Canada and as such will be an
epoch-making event. We hope to see many of you there. It is still

SYMBOLISM OF SHIP AND WATER
We like the rich rymbolism of a ship for our ordinations: a ship or
boat was a very early symbol of the church; Jesus often preached from a
boat and some of his first disciples were fishermen; we too are
learning how to fish, how to weather storms, we learn not to give up
when we have laboured all night with no result. The water is also rich
in symbolism, as source of life, as alive, flowing, life-giving, moving,
dynamic, often unstable and sometimes dangerous. And it's part of
prophetic obedience to find that we're all in the same boat!
CATACOMB ORDINATIONS
Some women really cannot risk a public ordination: they hold
responsible positions in their diocese or at a Catholic university and
they risk losing their jobs if they are publicly ordained. In the
tradition of the very early Church, we are willing to go into hiding
when necessary. Only a few carefully-selected people are present at
these Catacomb ordinations and the ordinands will have to see how their
priestly ministry takes shape when they can 'come out of the sacristy'.
This differs from one woman to another, according to the circumstances
of each.
ORDINATIONS IN 2006
For 2006 we are definitely planning an ordination on a ship on one of
the lakes in Switzerland. More than likely, there will also be an
ordination in the United States in 2006, since five deacons will be
ordained this year.

1-En cette période de Pâques ,nous souhaiterions qu'un plus grand nombre de prêtres de paroisse nous soutiennent en acceptant de consigner dans leurs registres paroissiaux les baptêmes des enfants que nous avons baptisés. Il y en a déjà quelques uns qui le font et nous accepterions volontiers plus de propositions de cette sorte . Chaque proposition est traitée de façon strictement confidentielle.
2-Un article récent du journal autrichien 'Profil Österreich'traite de la « difficile et longue route des femmes jusqu'au sommet » en notant pour l' Autriche les étapes suivantes :
1897: Premières femmes sorties du Lycée
1918: Premières femmes au Parlement
1919: Premières femmes admises à l'Université Technique
1946: Premières femmes autorisées à étudier à la Faculté Catholique
1947: Premières femmes juges à Vienne et à Linz
1953: Première femme maire
1966: Première femme Ministre du gouvernement
1994: Première femme Superintendante Luthérienne
1997: Première femme membre de l'orchestre Philharmonique
2002: Première femme directrice de la Télévision Autrichienne

3-Le 12 Mars, Dr Patricia Fresen a parlé comme intervenante principale au congrès du 30 ° Anniversaire du SEPA- WOC ( Assemblée pour l' Ordination des Femmes du Sud Est de Pennsylvanie ) Notre lettre pastorale ci-dessous est faite d'extraits de son discours sur l' obéissance prophétique .
4- Dans le journal Allemand Die Süddeutsche Zeitung , est paru un reportage sur la rareté des prêtres dans la région de Passau .Aujourd'hui, il y a seulement trois séminaristes qui se préparent à la prêtrise . Donc le séminaire va être bientôt fermé . Récemment , sept femmes prêtres et six femmes diacres ont été ordonnées à Passau. Quel dommage qu'elles ne puissent exercer leur ministère dans la région ! Les gens de Passau s'en réjouiraient certainement et le problème de rareté des prêtres n'existerait plus .
5- Plusieurs religieuses nous ont récemment posé la question de la possibilité de l'ordination. Jusqu'à présent les Ordres ont renvoyé les femmes qui ont été ordonnées ou leur ont demandé d'obtenir une dispense.

Si une religieuse est prête à prendre le risque d' être renvoyée et si elle peut s'assurer un futur en dehors de son ordre ou sa congrégation ,nous voulons bien l'admettre dans le cycle de préparation et l'ordonner publiquement.Il y a aussi la possibilié d'une ordination « de catacombe »qui est enregisrée légalement et qui lui donne le temps de voir comment les choses vont tourner .On envisage encore d'autres possibilités pour les religieuses qui souhaitent l'ordination.
6-Il y a déjà eu plusieurs « ordinations de catacombe »cette année et il y en a d'autres prévues pour l'été et l'automne . Nous accueillerons volontiers les femmes qui en ont besoin pour une raison ou une autre pour en parler avec elles .
7- A Vienne le 23 Avril se tiendra une Discussion sur le Podium pour célébrer le 10° anniversaire du mouvement « Nous sommes Eglise » Des théologiens , professeurs et journalistes connus sont invités, y compris une femme de notre communauté Femmes consacrées aux ministères .
